Project-Specific Customization for Polaria Marine Bathroom Furniture
In marine and offshore projects, bathroom furniture must meet far more than aesthetic expectations. Products are required to withstand demanding moisture conditions, support strict weight targets, comply with fire safety regulations, and remain durable throughout the vessel’s lifecycle.
At Polaria, we manufacture bathroom furniture for crew cabins as well as other onboard bathroom environments. Our powder-coated steel furniture combines lightweight construction with long-term durability, giving designers and shipyards the freedom to create stylish, modern spaces without compromising technical performance.
Products are delivered fully assembled, helping reduce onboard installation time and supporting efficient project schedules.
Project-specific customization is approached with these requirements in mind. Customization is possible when technical requirements are taken into account and the overall project solution is supported. In practice, the possibilities vary between product groups, and the best results are often achieved through a combination of standard solutions and carefully considered modifications.

Mirror Cabinets with Lighting – Safety, Certification and Marine Adaptations
Mirror cabinets with lighting are technically demanding products governed by strict electrical safety and compliance requirements. Certified components and predefined technical solutions naturally limit the scope of customization while ensuring product safety, reliability, and compliance in all projects.
Polaria’s product range already includes mirror cabinet solutions designed specifically for marine environments. These ready-made alternatives provide a reliable starting point for shipbuilding and accommodation projects while allowing project-specific modifications when needed.
Several sizes, handed versions, and models with or without residual-current devices and power sockets are available. In larger vessel projects, it is also possible to develop fully project-specific mirror cabinet models, although this requires significant volumes and long-term advance planning.
For marine applications, project-specific adaptations may include stronger magnets, storm rails, and other technical solutions designed to improve functionality and safety in moving environments.
Washbasin Cabinets – Flexibility for Marine Projects
Washbasin cabinets are often the most flexible product group when it comes to project customization. They are available in both door and drawer models. The key requirement is that the basin intended for use with the cabinet is known early enough in the process. The basin defines the cabinet structure, dimensions, and other technical solutions.
Once these parameters are clear, the dimensions of standard washbasin cabinets can be adapted to suit project-specific requirements.
Polaria has experience from projects where customers have used their own basin models. In some projects, the basin has been included in the planning process from the beginning, while in others the cabinets have been adapted to match the basin at a later stage. In these cases, the basin has been delivered to the factory, and the cabinet has been designed and manufactured specifically according to the basin’s dimensions and technical requirements.

Customization Through Colors and Finishes
One of the advantages of powder-coated steel bathroom furniture is the exceptionally wide color range. Thanks to our own painting line, we can implement various color solutions without compromising quality while ensuring a consistent final result. Polaria’s standard colors are white and anthracite grey.
In larger projects, all RAL colors are possible when the total number of products to be painted is sufficient. In practice, project-specific color customization requires a minimum of approximately 100 products. The products may be different models as long as they are painted in the same color.
When required, products can be finished with IMO-approved paints suitable for marine environments and maritime fire safety requirements.

When Does Project-Specific Customization Make Sense?
Over the years, Polaria has implemented a wide range of project-specific modifications for marine and other demanding B2B applications. Typical adaptations include openings and cut-outs for pipe penetrations, technical installations, and onboard utility connections. Products can also be modified with project-specific dimensions, reinforced structures, stronger magnets, storm rails, alternative fixing solutions, and other technical details required for moving environments and vessel-specific requirements.
The available customization possibilities are always evaluated together with the shipyard, designer, and project stakeholders to ensure technical functionality, durability, and compliance.
To ensure product quality, functionality, and warranty coverage, all modifications are made during the manufacturing stage. Modifications made afterwards, such as drilled holes or structural changes on site, may compromise the product structure and will void the warranty.
Long-term spare part availability and serviceable structures help extend product lifecycles and support easier maintenance onboard.
For project-specific modifications, a recommended minimum quantity is typically approximately 40 units. At that level, the planning, testing, and implementation of modifications are technically and economically justified. In many cases, a standard solution combined with carefully selected modifications provides the most efficient and reliable overall result for marine projects.
Designed for Long-Term Marine Performance
In marine environments, long product lifecycles, moisture resistance, and ease of maintenance are essential. Polaria’s powder-coated steel solutions are designed to maintain their appearance and functionality year after year, even in demanding onboard conditions. Manufactured in Finland with decades of experience in durable, moisture-resistant bathroom furniture.
The best results are achieved when project requirements are discussed early together with designers, shipyards, and project stakeholders. In many cases, standard solutions combined with carefully considered project-specific modifications create the most efficient balance between design flexibility, technical compliance, lifecycle durability, and cost-efficiency.
